Special Needs

Health

Quail Run has the service of a health educator for one day a week. The duties of the health educator include the following:

1. Handling emergency cases where seriousness warrants.
2. Assisting in improving health education at all grade levels.
3. Working with teachers to discuss health problems and assisting teachers to help children with health needs.
4. Making home contacts when situations warrant this contact.
5. Providing hearing and vision screening for designated students.

Speech and Language

We have the services of a full time speech and language therapist. These services are offered to any child who qualifies for speech and language therapy. The schedule for this service is established after school opens each year. Our current Speech and Language Therapists are Pat DeMuri (can be reached at pdemuri@srvusd.net) and Gabby Mukhtar (can be reached at gmukhtar@srvusd.net).

Resource Specialist

A Resource Specialist is available to assist students in academic, social, physical or emotional areas of need. This specialist observes students, diagnosing areas of remediation and coordinates referrals for special student assistance. Our resource specialist also assists the classroom teachers in modifying the classroom curriculum to meet the needs of special needs students. The Resource Specialist will work with students on a one-to-one and/or small group basis, when such instruction seems advisable. Special Day Class

Quail Run currently has four special day classes. Students in grades K - 5 who qualify for support in our smaller educational environment attend one of our special day classrooms. For more information, please contact the program supervisor Karen Andersen at kandersen@srvusd.net.
